Mission Statement

The Charney Forum for New Diplomacy’s mission is to educate participants about the impact of technology on diplomacy and geo-politics and provide them with practical tools in the field of New Diplomacy to enrich and adapt the current diplomatic conversation to the ever-changing new realities of the age of information. This will be achieved through the exploration, study, and teaching of cutting-edge methodologies in New Diplomacy, Public Diplomacy, Place Branding, Social and Behavioral Studies, Ethics, and Digital Literacy.

Leon Charney

Leon Charney (July 23, 1938 – March 21, 2016) was an American attorney, businessman, author, philanthropist, foreign policy specialist, political commentator, media personality, and cantor. Charney was a graduate of both Yeshiva University and Brooklyn Law School. A devout Zionist his entire life, in 1979, Charney played an important role as an unofficial adviser to President Jimmy Carter and is notably known for his behind-the-scenes role in the Camp David Accords which led to the first comprehensive peace between Israel and Egypt in 1978 and 1979. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the University of Haifa.

New Diplomacy represents the dramatic shift traditional diplomacy is currently undergoing: from an advocacy-based model of G2G (government to government) to a pro-active model based on marketing, communications, narrative and story-telling.
